By luck of the draw, Ezra Buller will serve another term on Slocan village council.
When the ballots were counted on election night, the incumbent was tied with Nicole Nicol Berinstein for the fourth and final council spot with 72 votes apiece, while Delaine Hird was only one behind them.
A judicial recount on Monday confirmed the original results, according to a post on the village’s Facebook site. So in accordance with the village’s election bylaw, they picked a name out of a box. It turned out to be Buller’s.
While ties are rare, they are not unheard of. In 2008, Jean Patterson secured a seat on Slocan council through the same method.
Canal Flats also saw its mayor elected in the same fashion this time.
