Krestova Fundraising Committee has reached its goal of raising $475,000 to purchase private land to create Krestova Regional Park.
The committee raised $870,000 in just over a month to assist in the purchase of approximately 134 acres of land in electoral Area H.
“My appreciation goes to the Krestova Regional Park fundraising committee and the entire community who supported this initiative,” says Walter Popoff, director for Area H, in a news release. “This has been a remarkable effort that many did not think was possible, especially in such a short period of time.”
According to the news release, the money was raised with a combined Area H Community Development grant ($250,000), and a private donation ($145,000) to meet their goal.
“The RDCK will now continue to work with the sellers and go through the purchasing process,” says Joe Chirico, RDCK general manager. “This requires the RDCK to have all the funds in place to close the purchase on March 31.”
The RDCK says that date is the earliest they can take possession of the land and until then it remains private land.
The fundraising committee thanks all those who donated and is now asking all pledgers to send in their donations so they can forward the money to the seller.
“We are overwhelmed by the amount of small businesses and individuals that have supported this cause and raised so much money in such a short period of time,” says committee chair John Bullock.
