Taxes and sustainability – those are the two key platform issues for one of the ten new names running for Nelson city council next month.
Brian Shields – who was the former manager of operations for the city – says more needs to be done to reduce taxes.
He notes there are annual suprluses on the books and asks why that’s necessary when taxes could be curtailed instead.
Shields is also focused on long-term sustainability in nelson including working with the Regional District to have a food security strategy.
