Evacuation Orders put in place due to several wildfires

According to the BC Wildfire Service, the wildfires in the area are continuing to grow.

The Octopus Creek wildfire is now sitting at 4,200 hectares in size and the Michaud Creek fire has grown to the size of 4,600 hectares.

Crews are still at the scene of the fires trying to contain them.

The Regional District of Central Kootenay, with the recommendation from the BC Wildfire Service, has issued multiple Evacuation Alerts and Orders due to the various wildfires burning in the region.

Trozzo Creek

Due to the Trozzo Creek wildfire, which is burning at 2,635 hectares, an Evacuation Order has been issued for the area from 8210 Highway 6, below Ringrose Creek, south to Christian Creek in the Slocan Valley in Electoral Area H.

“Residents and visitors are required to leave the Evacuation Order area immediately,” said the RDCK. “Evacuated residents are asked to go to their pre-arranged emergency locations and register online with Emergency Support Services (ESS). If you do not have a pre-arranged location and require support, please report to the Castlegar and District Recreation Centre, 2101 6th Avenue, Castlegar, BC.”

Michaud Creek

Due to the Michaud Creek wildfire, which is burning at 2,670 hectares, an Evacuation Order has been issued for the Electoral Area K to include the communities of Edgewood and Needles north to Whatshan Lake for a total of 356 properties.

“Residents and visitors are required to leave the Evacuation Order area immediately,” said the RDCK. “Evacuated residents are asked to go to their pre-arranged emergency locations and register online with Emergency Support Services (ESS). If you do not have a pre-arranged location and require support, please report to the Kelowna Community Church, 1480 Sutherland Ave, Kelowna BC and register with ESS.”

Octopus Creek

Due to the Octopus Creek wildfire, which is burning at 3,192 hectares, an Evacuation Order has been issued in Electoral Area K to include the area from the transmission lines on Applegrove Road south to the existing order boundary, south side of Taite Creek including the Taite Creek recreation site, and for the community of Fauquier, north to Grassy Point.

“Residents and visitors are required to leave the Evacuation Order area immediately and report to the Nakusp & District Sports Complex (200 8th Ave NW, Nakusp, BC) or register online with Emergency Support Services (ESS),” said the RDCK.

Renata Creek

Due to the Renata Creek wildfire, which is burning at 2,196 hectares, an Evacuation Alert has been issued for the community of Renata and any other dwellings within the Evacuation Area perimeter, on the east shore of Lower Arrow Lake in Electoral Area J.

“At this time residents or visitors within the area are not required to evacuate, however, the RDCK advises people to remain vigilant and be prepared to leave the area at a moment’s notice,” said the RDCK.
