KASLO, B.C. – RCMP have cracked open a major drug investigation after a serious workplace accident near Kaslo last week.
It was on August 26 that investigators were called to a property in Meadow Creek outside Kaslo, after a boom crane operating on a marijuana grow-op collapsed.
A local 46-year old man was injured seriously.
At the scene, police say they found evidence that workers on the scene were attempting to tamper with BC Hydro wires.
Police obtained a search warrant after suspicions that the injury was likely caused by criminal negligence.
During the search warrant, police uncovered approximately 11,000 cannabis plants, according to a news release issued Tuesday afternoon.
Police say the property has several licenses to produce marijuana, but the amounts uncovered far exceeded the allowance.
All plants were seized and will be destroyed.
RCMP remain tight-lipped on specifics on the investigation but confirm they are considering charges under the Criminal Code and Cannabis Act.
