CASTLEGAR, B.C. – The city of Castlegar is a big step closer to seeing a large scale craft cannabis facility opening up near the airport.
Vancouver-based Cannabis West Development has signed a lease agreement with the City of Castlegar for an empty lot near the airport.
The planned facility will provide a rental space for established growers to take their growing into a compliant facility, with the goal to get their product out on the legal market.
The City of Castlegar will be renting the lot to the developer, with an option to buy.
Chris Barlow, chief administrative officer for the City of Castlegar says early numbers are pointing towards 50 jobs being created by the launch.
“The cannabis industry is quickly expanding and it is something that the city council has identified as a potential for Castlegar to create good-paying local jobs and diversify the economy.”
Cannabis West Development will take possession of the lot on January 1 next year, and the construction is expected to start shortly after that.
A similar craft cannabis facility is being pursued in Nelson.
