NELSON, B.C – A climate protest was held outside MLA Michele Mungals office in Nelson on Thursday, as well as in 16 other places in the province.
The demand: That the government take action and prohibit all exploitation of old growth forests by lumber companies.
“If we lose the last of the fragmented old growth, our climate will not be able to be resilient in the time of climate crisis”, said protester Jessica Ogden.
She handed out information on how to participate in the recently announced public consultation on private land logging that the government opened up for last week.
The protest was organized by the Sierra Club B.C who have been tracking the private logging of old growth, that has been prominent on Vancouver Island.
According to the organization, closer to 90.000 hectares of old growth was harvested from there between 2005 and 2015.
