A minor ammonia leak set off the alarm at the Nelson Curling Club on Tuesday night – prompting an earlier sanitation from the toxic substance than planned.
President Greg Weiss tell My Nelson Now that the facilities are now completely free from ammonia after emergency personnel were dispatched to the closed down curling hall.
“All of the ammonia has now been removed and we are ready to start the repairs”, Weiss wrote in an email on Thursday morning.
The curling club has been shut down since February when the first leak was detected.
Greg Weiss says they are still underway with the fundraising to get the club up and running again by the fall.
So far everything looks promising, he says.
“We have had support from the city and the regional district. We are doing everything we can now to be operating in October. We will be able to curl and have a Monday night drop-in”.
