Researchers at University of British Columbia are mapping out what the priorities are for rural residents when it comes to healthcare.
The Centre for Rural Health Research are now reaching out to residents in several towns and communities to ask them what areas matters most.
Christine Carthew is the research coordinator for the project, and says early findings in their review speak to a request for more primary care resources.
“Other priorities that have come through have been elderly care, and within that there are multiple aspects. There could be better support for home care or more long term assisted living facilities that is nowhere near exhaustive”, Carthew adds.
The findings will be gathered into a report and shared with policy makers.
Apart from a web survey and phone interviews, the Centre for Rural Health Research are also putting together a citizens committee to provide local input on healthcare and how to best share the findings with their local communities.
