The Kootenay Lake School District has provided an update on what’s being done to address concerns about the recent measles outbreak in Vancouver. The district says parents and guardians can be assured that the ministries of Education and Health are working together to mitigate the risk of the outbreak to school communities. Over the coming weeks the ministry will communicate actions that will be taken with schools across the province to reduce risk, such as updating immunization records for measles and offering catch-up immunization for students.
The school district has also been in contact with the local public health office were told, as of March 1, there are no confirmed cases of measles in the Kootenay Boundary or Interior Health regions. Also, the best way to protect yourself and your loved ones against measles is to get vaccinated and ensure vaccinations are up to date.
