Kootenay Lake Ferry users may experience increased wait times during busy sailings this spring due to low water levels. The Ministry of Transportation and Infrastructure released a statement saying the regularly used MV Osprey 2000 will operate under reduced weight load from March 10 to March 23.
The MV Balfour, which usually runs in the summer, will take over the duties but with vehicle capacity reduced to 28 from March 24 to April 12.
The MV Osprey 2000 will resume service until April 20, again under weight restrictions and in some cases this might result in a sailing wait for heavier vehicles.
To prevent future service interruptions, the province will be performing selective dredging in the shallow areas of the channel near the Balfour Terminal in fall 2019.
It is recommended that you allow time for a potential sailing wait and consider off-peak crossing times before 9:00 a.m. or after 5:00 p.m.
