Development at 205 Hall Street moves forward

A re-zoning at 205 Hall Street was given the green light by Nelson City Council. There was no opposition during this week’s public hearing and council voted unanimously in favour of moving forward with the residential and commercial building on what’s currently the empty lot at the intersection with Front Street.  The property has to be re-zoned from Institutional to Core Commercial, which is what was approved on Tuesday.

Mike Culos with Culos Developments explains the plans in more detail. “There’s six two-story family town homes in there, and then there’s a mix of one and two bedrooms, as well as there’s the commercial on the ground floor which is really more on Hall Street and to the corner and the town houses will give Front Street, which is the highway, a very soft, nice look.”

It would include 38 residential and four commercial units in total with a variety of price ranges. Some units would be more affordable and some, for example the top floor lake-view units, would be more pricey.

Culos explains what the next steps in the process are. “We’ll continue to work through on the development permit where we pick up all of the comments about form and character and colour and all of those kind of things.”

He says the development permit process should take about 60 days and he’s hoping to make an application for a building permit in January. As of right now, the date for occupancy is September of 2020.
