Municipal politicians from around the region had their annual conference last month in Fernie. The Association of Kootenay Boundary Local Governments meets once a year to pass resolutions they want to bring to the provincial level. Nelson City Council attended and submitted three resolutions for discussion. Mayor Deb Kozak says that included the creation of a Rural Needs Act.
One of Nelson’s resolutions that did not get passed was a tax on fossil fuel companies to help with adaptation and infrastructure costs of climate change.
Another resolution that was passed was 50 per cent of revenues going to municipalities when cannabis is legalized.
