Nelson City Council has approved a bylaw amendment that prevents drive-throughs from operating 24-7. Councillor Valerie Warmington says they didn’t want the drive-through creating too much noise in the area late at night.
A&W is the only drive-through business allowed in the city and had inquired about extending its hours.
Councillor Warmington says the reason drive-throughs aren’t allowed is to create an certain type of experience in the city, however A&W was grandfathered in.
Future plans in Railtown include adding residential buildings.
The hours of operation allowed for drive-throughs now are 5:00am to 11:00pm.
Councillor Bob Adams opposed the decision.
