Nelson Fire and Rescue Services responded to a jet fuel spill at the Nelson Airport on Friday. Chief Len McCharles says he responded with two other members on duty around 2:15pm.
The spill happened when a tanker truck was off-loading fuel to a storage tank. Chief McCharles says peat moss and other absorbent materials helped clean up the 150 to 200 liter spill, but further remediation is needed.
He says the first goal for crews was to ensure all ignition sources were closed off in surrounding buildings.
The spill appears to have been caused from a coupling vibrating loose. The driver was okay with only some mild irritations.
