It’s been a busy few days for Nelson firefighters, who twice responded to simultaneous calls.
On Friday, they had to deal with a gas leak and a kitchen fire at the same time.
On Sunday afternoon, they responded to a fence fire. The caller said they put most of it out with a garden house, but crews responded to make sure it didn’t spread any further.
They used a thermal imaging camera to locate hot spots and soaked them down.
They say the fire appears to have started in the landscaping material at the base of the fence, and burned on both sides. Damage is estimated at $500. The cause is still under investigation.
While that was going on, two vehicles collided at Stanley and Vernon streets. Although damage was “relatively minor,” one person was injured as was assessed by paramedics. Police are investigating.
