Businesses more ‘hopeful’ after latest meeting on downtown

There now appears to be an atmosphere of hope in addressing issues on the streets of Nelson’s downtown.

This from Chamber of Commerce Past-President Ed Olthof.

That follows another meeting of business owners, city council, social services and police.

Last month many businesses wrote a strongly-worded open letter including an accusation that city council was adversarial to the business community.

Olthof says council’s proposed smoking bylaw would go a long way to allaying business concerns about loitering on the street.
