Evacuation alert issued at Tam O’Shanter Creek

The Regional District of Central Kootenay has issued an evacuation alert for four properties at the mouth of Tam O’Shanter Creek north of Riondel.

Residents reported dirty water in Tam O’Shanter Creek and a helicopter flyover this afternoon confirmed that a small landslide occurred within a tributary of the main creek, the RDCK said in a news release.

The slide was likely caused by the melting snowpack on an unstable slope. There is a low risk of slide debris impacting the residences below the creek. Residents are asked to watch for any large, sudden changes in flow in the creek, or any turbidity and debris.
