Balfour may keep water grant, despite counterpetition

The Regional District of Central Kootenay figures it’ll be tight, but Balfour’s water system can be upgraded in time to qualify for a vital grant.

The board has agreed to go to referendum on long-term borrowing, but that won’t happen till the summer.

Environmental services manager Uli Wolf says the grant, which would cover 83 per cent of the cost, comes with strict time lines.

A recent counterpetition rejected borrowing but officials are confident the referendum will succeed.
