Yasodhara Ashram at Kootenay Bay hosted a Women’s March on Saturday in solidarity with the Women’s March on Washington.
Over 70 people gathered from as far as Creston to show support for women’s rights, organizers said.
“We understand the principle of interdependence, that the world is a village. What affects one country affects the world,” said Ashram president Swami Lalitananda. “The ashram stands for freedom and equality for all people in all lands.”
Part of a global movement, the march at Yasodhara Ashram culminated at the Temple of Light, currently under construction and expected to be complete this spring. It was the first official gathering in which people entered through the temple’s entrance.
Over 600 sister marches took place globally, including one in Grand Forks.
