RCMP confirm one person has died and another is in serious condition following a two-car head-on crash on Highway 3A near Bonnington on Monday morning.
Names, ages, genders, and hometowns of the victims haven’t been released.
But Sgt. Chad Badry said the driver of one of the vehicles was airlifted to Kelowna with life-threatening injuries. The passenger in the same vehicle was taken to Kootenay Lake hospital but died .
The driver of the other vehicle suffered serious but non-life-threatening injuries.
The collision occurred around 8 a.m. The highway was closed and traffic was detoured until the scene investigation was completed around 12:30 p.m.
West Kootenay Traffic and the BC Coroners Service are working together to determine the cause of the collision.
“We want to remind drivers to adjust their driving according to the conditions,” Badry said in a news release. “This may mean giving yourself extra time to travel, using public transit, leaving extra distance between vehicles, choosing not to drive, and most certainly drive slower.”
