Allowable cut announcement provides stability: Interfor

One of the biggest forestry companies in our area says they respect the review by BC’s Chief Forester in keeping the allowable cut in the Boundary the same.

It will remain 700,000 cubic metres a year for the next ten years.

Ric Slaco the VP and Chief Forester with Interfor says that figure gives them stability going forward although given the outlook for a surge in the lumber market they’d be happy to see some increases.

BC’s Chief Forester says maintaining the current allowable cut provides a balance between supporting supply and the potential need to harvest more if the mountain pine beetle infestation worsens in the Boundary.
