Two people who fell down the canyon above Nelson’s Cottonwood Falls on Friday may have been there for hours.
Fire Chief Len MacCharles says it’s only by luck that someone heard their cries for help.
Firefighters used a rope rescue to get a woman out but she died in hospital the next morning.
They also rescued a man who suffered only minor injuries.
