Silverton is the latest municipality to adopt an aboriginal acknowledgement before council meetings.
Councillor Leah Main notes the conferences they attend often include a greeting from First Nations.
She made the suggestion after Nelson adopted a similar protocol.
The statement — to be read tonight for the first time — reads: “The Village of Silverton acknowledges the aboriginal peoples on whose traditional territories we stand.”
Main says it doesn’t mention specific First Nations because of overlapping land claims.
