Funding sought for Civic Arena upgrades

The City of Nelson needs to revamp the Civic Arena and quickly.

They will be applying for federal grant funding through the Canada 150 Program to help with facility repairs and improvements.

Here’s City Manager Kevin Cormack.

Last year the city spent over $65, 000 to fix mould and lead issues to ensure it could remain open for the 2015 ice season.

The Civic Centre Rehabilitation Project is estimated to cost just over $680, 000.

If the city is approved for the funds the grant would cover half of those costs.
