Nelson calls for better rental dispute process

Nelson homeowners are moving to the likes of AirBnB short-term rentals because they’re fed up with the hassle of long term tenants.

The city is learning that landlords are disillusioned with the inability to receive justice when they have a dispute with their renter.

Here’s councillor Anna Purcell.

The dispute process can take months.

The city is calling on the province to allow all residential tenancy disputes to go to the quicker and more efficient Civil Resolution Tribunal. At the moment it only handles small claims and strata disputes.

It remains to be seen if this would help open up more long-term rentals in Nelson which currently has a 0% vacancy rate.
