The Mayor Of Nelson say the city has no intention of hiring more bylaw officers to enforce a proposed panhandling bylaw.
Deb Kozak is speaking after the Nelson Committee On Homelessness raised serious concerns.
These include more costs because of the assumed increase in enforcement and the risk of more tension as bylaw officers move panhandlers along.
She says the additional regulations over and above the existing provincial safe streets act are actually a good thing for Nelson.
Kozak adds the bylaw would not preclude efforts to secure a street outreach worker.
