Castlegar lagoon sewer fix gets funding help

The city of Castlegar expects to further strengthen the North Lagoon sewage pond this year.

This from CAO John Malcolm following news the Province and Feds will pay two-thirds of the $400,000 flood preparation cost.

Malcolm says the potential problem with slippage was identified after the 2012 flooding.

He says in a worst case scenario the lagoon -which contains treated sewage- could collapse and flow into the Columbia River so the city is being prudent by doing the additional rock work.
