The Paulson Bridge on Highway 3 in the Boundary was closed Tuesday afternoon because of a collision.
RCMP say it involved a truck that spilled its load.
Regional Fire Rescue in Trail said it would take many hours to clear and re-open.
The latest estimate from Drive BC ( at just before 6 pm Tuesday) was for a re-opening of the bridge at 9:45 pm. But this was just an estimate.
