There’s little change in the labour stats picture for the Kootenays.
Stats Canada says the unemployment rate for our region was 7.3% for March. That’s almost what it was in March 2015.
5,300 people are out of work.
For BC the jobless figure is worse compared to the month before at 6.5%. However , on a year-over-year basis, the province gained 72,000 jobs – still the fastest growth rate among all the provinces.
Canada’s unemployment rate improved slightly to 7.1% after an unexpectedly high surge in new jobs of 41,000.
