Should Castlegar butt-out in public parks?

A smoking ban in city parks was touched on by city council and could be brought up at future meetings at City Hall.

Councilor Sue Heaton-Sherstobitoff says the idea has come up in the past.

Besides the obvious health concerns, discarded cigarette butts are often left on the ground and have been getting into storm drains.

Heaton-Sherstobitoff says she would support a ban with a possible designated smoking area.

She expects council to have a good look at the idea in the coming weeks.
