The Ministry Of Transportation says a public access under-pass on the South Slocan Highway Project can be created as a cost-sharing venture.
Residents were initially concerned the plan to replace the bridge with fill didn’t include a pedestrian tunnel.
But Project Manager Robbie Kalabis says there’s a financial commitment from the province and MOT to do that.
He’d like to see the RDCK and local trails society also help make the tunnel something special.
The tunnel could cost up to $400,000 but Kalabis says the ministry can’t pay for all of it as they need to be prudent with taxpayers dollars.
