The BC Government is looking into updating the Fire Safety Act.
It has been status quo since 1979.
Len MacCharles, Nelson’s Fire Chief, says if passed, it will allow better tracking of inspections.
The proposed new Fire Safety Act is meant to improve fire code compliance, enable local authorities to appoint personnel to carry out inspections and to establish and enforcement model to address non-compliance in a more timely manner.
MacCharles says it should modernize the existing act.
