Trail denied funding for hospital access road

Can the federal government aid the City Of Trail’s bid for a secondary access road to the Kootenay Boundary Regional Hospital?

Mayor Mike Martin hopes so.

The city was recently denied funding through provincial gas-tax monies to build the $3 million road.

The new road would fulfil a key requirement from Interior Health as they ponder approval of future big hospital upgrades.

If anything serious happened on the existing steep and relatively narrow road, access to the hospital could be blocked.

Martin says given any upgrades could be five years away the city still has time to secure funding and get the road built.
