Support for embattled Grand Forks councillor

With the court case looming supporters of embattled Grand Forks city councillor Julia Butler gathered Thursday night.

They continue to claim the city is trying to muzzle Butler by pursuing their Supreme Court case against her for alleged conflict of interest.

Council wants her removed from office.

She secured the second most votes in the 2014 election and was supported by many people who saw her as an opponent of the controversial water metering program.

Donald Pharand arranged the meeting and says about 60 people showed up.

He says the case -which is scheduled for next month- should be in Grand Forks court not in Vancouver because it’s precedent-setting.

Butler denies her past ownership of a small lawn care business put her in conflict and she continued to speak and vote against water metering decisions as a councillor.
