Local building inspector set to help out in New Zealand

It sure isn’t what he’s used to but Nelson’s former Building Inspector is hoping he can contribute to a bigger cause.

Bernie Zimmer – who recently retired from his long-time duties in the Queen City – is now in Christchurch New Zealand to help in the re-build after the massive 2011 earthquake.

He describes the scene as one of a mix of good and bad.

Zimmer is now part of a team of building inspectors from around the world who will be handling around 300 permits a week !

100,000 homes need repairs.
