A major boost for local seniors who want to have transport mobility and independence across our region.
A West Kootenay Seniors Transportation Coordinator is now on the job.
Dana Burgess’ task is to ensure seniors know about and can access the various public transit options.
She’ll staff an office on Nelson’s Vernon Street three days a week and also get out to various regional centres once a week.
The program is run by the Age-friendly Initiative of the Nelson Cares Society.
It has identified seniors and public transit as a priority in combatting isolation and ensuring continued access to medical, social and shopping needs.
