Residents petition against chronic vehicle noise

Thousands of people around Kootenay Lake and the Slocan Valley have signed a petition demanding stricter enforcement of vehicle noise.

Silverton resident Gloria Lisgo has delivered the petition to the RDCK board. It was also handed to the BC Legislature last month.

She says the noise from motorbikes in particular that have had their exhaust system modified is creating a chronic problem.

Lisgo says the noise as well as speeding is hurting tourism and property values.

She’s calling on local and the provincial governments to ensure RCMP officers do indeed issue tickets for noisy offenders.
