Kalmikoff jury receives judge’s instructions

The judge has been giving instructions to the jury in the Krista Kalmikoff case in Nelson Supreme Court.

She is accused of six offences all related to her being an accomplice of Andrew Stevenson- her former partner – who has been convicted of several armed robberies.

Justice Mark McEwan told the jury – 7 women and 5 men- that this trial involved direct and circumstantial evidence.

He said the jury should note both types of evidence are acceptable as proof and both could be unreliable.

He told them they need to decide how much weight to put on the various evidence they heard.

Once the judge’s instructions were over the jury was expected to be sequestered and could deliberate until 10 pm each day over the weekend – if they need that much time.

All 12 jurors need to be unanimous if they are to find Kalmikoff guilty of each charge.
