Castlegar clarifies doctor shortage

The City of Castlegar is clarifying it’s continued family physician shortage.

This in light of what they’ve called incorrect messaging from Interior Health.

The city’s Physician Recruiter Cheryl Gnyp says IH has wrongly suggested Castlegar has enough doctors and can handle 200 more patients left without a doctor following the closure of a clinic in Trail.

But she says those are Castlegar residents.

Gnyp says Castlegar still needs three GP’s and there is currently no extra patient capacity.

IH has confirmed Castlegar needs three recruits and has apoligized for any confusing messaging that may have occurred as a result of the clinic closure in Trail.
