Trail city council has approved the budget moving forward with construction of the new Riverfront Centre Museum-Library.
CAO David Perehudoff says the amount will be increased from the originally planned $6.8 million.
The increase could have been much higher, as a cost consultant recently priced the project out at nearly $10 million.
Inflation was noted as a cause for that increase, as significant time has passed since the original concept and budget for the facility was laid out.
But Perehudoff says the city’s Building Committee and the project manager have taken 2,000 sq ft off the facility’s “footprint” to drive that cost down.
