A possible solution in Nelson when it comes to keeping garbage away from local wildlife.
Joanne Siderius the regional coordinator for Wildsafe BC is asking the city to support her upcoming CBT funding request for bear-proof bins.
She’d like to see a larger scale cost-sharing program between the city and rural areas similar to one that worked earlier.
In that instance a fifty-fifty split had residents paying $137 towards the grizzly-resistant bin or $197 for the bigger model.
She’s also looking for the city to set an example and place the special bins at Lakeside Park.
