Is Nelson armed robber linked to other recent incidents?

Local police aren’t yet saying if they think the armed robbery suspect who fired a shotgun in Nelson Friday is connected to previous incidents in our region.

If the suspect is the same person then Friday afternoon’s robbery of the Kootenay Currency Exchange on Vernon Street would represent an escalation in violence because the suspect pulled the trigger.

The hooded suspect -again described as around 5′ 10″ – did not aim the gun at staff and no one was hurt.

Nelson Police Chief Wayne Holland says the suspect is desperate and someone knows something because no one is completely insular.

Police have not said if CCTV footage was taken near the scene.

So far RCMP have released a composite sketch from the pharmacy incident in Castlegar late last year and a CCTV picture of the suspect in the Salmo credit union in February.

A store in Robson and credit union in downtown Castlegar have also been targeted.

No other CCTV pictures or video has been released nor have police given any info regarding tone of voice, accent or any distinct mannerisms.
