Nelson City Council will make a formal move against the government’s changes to the Agricultural Land Reserve.
The government has created two zones for the ALR and the Kootenays falls into zone 2 – which means other development can happen on the land.
The ALR in the Lower Mainland remains protected and Councilor Candace Batycki says that’s discriminatory and deprives our region of agricultural self-determination.
Nelson has forwarded an emergency resolution to this week’s Association of Kootenay Boundary Local Governments (AKBLG) Convention calling for local regions to have the right to decide which zone their ALR land should fall into.
