Nelson Police roll out Restorative Justice Program

Individuals in Nelson facing minor criminal charges now have an alternative option to going to court.

The police department is rolling out the innovative Restorative Justice Program where those facing the charge admit guilt and are prepared to meet with the victim to repair any harm.

Sergeant Dino Falcone says if all goes well through the process – that person will not have a criminal record.

Falcone says the sort of crimes considered in the program deal with shop lifting, mischief, or causing a disturbance but not serious matters like violent crime.

The department is looking for volunteers who’ll be trained to be facilitators.
