The woman who was assaulted by a Nelson police officer says she has not lost faith in the department.
Tawny Campbell is speaking after Tuesday’s conviction of Cst. Drew Turner for assault during her arrest last year.
He punched her in the face, which knocked her out, and the judge ruled Turner had used unreasonable force.
Campbell says based on the evidence from those fellow officers who were also on scene she would have been shocked if Turner had not been found guilty.
As Turner awaits sentencing she says she’d like to see officers undergoing more mental checks.
