Trail bridge borrowing approved

Trail residents will get their say in the next step of the City’s push to erect a $9.8 million pedestrian/pipe bridge.
Council authorized borrowing the Silver City’s $5.8 million share that will be payed back over 25 years.
Mayor Dieter Bogs says an alternate approval process will follow where if 10 per cent of the population officially opposes the move it can force a referendum, despite having no burden on taxpayers.
The city receives an annual gas tax payment of just over $340,000.
The Regional District of Kootenay Boundary will pitch in $4 million for the bridge.
