Trail Library disappointed by debt relief rejection

The Trail and District Library board does not know where necessary cuts will come from.

So says chair Barbara Gibson following City Council’s decision not to annul a $17,000 debt.

Gibson says they will have to be very vigilant with their finances this year.

Gibson adds they are chasing grants and donations to fund reading and children’s programs this summer.

The City says it will not increase the library’s annual operating grant and says the facility is required to operate within its means.

The library received $420,000 this year, up over $12,000 from 2014.

Gibson says the deficit is the result of personnel issues but she would not disclose details.
